The FLIPOUT, which will launch initially in the UK on Orange, will ship with Android OS 2.1. It has a clever pivot that allows you to reveal a five-row keyboard with a separate row for numbers.

Users can have up to seven customisable home screens with live wallpapers and MOTOBLUR, Motorola’s unique service that gathers all of your social media into one place.

The FLIPOUT will be offered in a choice of colours, depending on the market, so we can’t say yet what colours will come to the UK. However, choices will include Licorice, Fairway Green, Raspberry Crush, Brilliant Blue, Poppy Red, Saffron and White.

At launch, Motorola is launching its ‘Hip To Be Square’ competition. Five winners will get the chance to take part in a professional fashion shoot and star as the European faces of the Motorola FLIPOUT. The prize includes an all-expenses paid trip to London where the shoot takes place, along with £500 of spending money and a free handset.

MOTOBLUR has been updated (V1.5) to allow you to filter social networking content by account, contacts or groups. A new battery manager allows users to manage the power consumption by choosing one of three performance modes. Data usage can be controlled by a data monitor, allowing users to ensure they don’t exceed their allowances.

The FLIPOUT also includes Motorola’s CystalTalk PLUS technology to improve a caller’s voice quality and filter out background noise, using a second microphone. The phone includes a 3-megapixel camera, with flash and Kodak Perfect Touch technology for better imaging quality, AGPS, Wi-Fi (including support for Wireless-N). There is also support for all the usual Google services offered on the Android platform.

The FLIPOUT will be available in the summer, starting with an exclusive deal with Orange.
