Microsoft’s GDR2 update may just be hitting some users, but it looks like you won’t have to wait quite as long for GDR3 — with the update already rumoured to be in testing.

The update is set to add quite a few new features to the Windows Phone operating system, with the ability to lock your phone’s orientation, some UI changes to Live Tiles, and an in-car driving mode.

Whilst not much is known about the GDR3 update, a post on the Windows Phone subreddit has pointed out some of the upcoming features. According to the post, along with the Driver Mode and Orientation Lock, it will add support for 1080p screen resolutions and new processors — as well as allowing you to have three medium sized tiles in a row.

Other rumoured features in GDR3 include the ability to close apps from the multitasking menu and a silent NFC — although the reliability of this information is unknown.

According to The Verge, Microsoft is testing a feature which will enable you to sync your text messages between your Windows Phones, PCs and the web — although this may not make it into GDR3.

If rumours are to be believed, the GDR3 update will be finalised just in time for a Nokia Phablet — which is allegedly set for a mid-September announcement.
