Meizu has today unveiled the first edition to their premium smartphone line, the Pro 5.

Meizu only announced its planned foray into premium smartphone manufacturing little more than 11 days ago and the company has already taken the wraps off its new flagship. The Meizu Pro 5 follows on from the impressive MX5; a device which was already biting at the heels of current flagships.

The device will come with a 5.7-inch 1080p screen, as hinted previously by Meizu CEO Li Nan. It’s powered by the herculean Samsung Exynos 7420 processor, which is the same chip found in the Galaxy S6 range. The rear camera is a 21 megapixel shooter which uses the latest Sony IMX230 sensor; the same as the one which features in the new Moto X. The front camera is a 5 megapixel Omnivision OV5670, which is a quality sensor found in plenty of flagships. As an added bonus, it also includes a dedicated audio card and headphone amplifier for crisper sound quality.

The battery will be a large 3,050 mAh which should be good for plenty of talk-time. It also includes Meizu’s mCharge 2.0 technology which allows a 0-65% charge in just 30 minutes. USB-C is included as standard, which keeps it in-line with comparative devices. The Pro 5 will run on the latest version of Android Lollipop and include the brand new Flyme OS V5.

Two models will be available at launch with differing levels of internal memory. There’s a 32GB model with 3GB RAM and a 64GB model with 4GB RAM. Both devices go on sale starting October 12th with a price-tag of $439 and $490.
