Meizu has announced a new high-end addition to their smartphone range which will compete with the likes of Samsung and LG flagships.

The new PRO line of smartphone devices are expected to include both Exynos and Meditek chipsets but no Snapdragon. Company Vice President Li Nan was particularly hard on Qualcomm, stating that the user experience on their flagship chipsets ‘sucks’.

The Pro 5 will be the first addition to the range and will include a choice of the Exynos 7420 CPU or the MediaTek MT6797. Yes, that is the 10-core monster that everybody keeps talking about. Other confirmed specifications include a 5.5-inch 1080p screen and 3/4GB RAM, 21 megapixel rear camera and a large 3000 mAh battery. Nan stated that anything above 1080p is illogical on a smartphone.

Expect the device very soon, as pricing and availability is due to be announced in the coming weeks. Meizu will hold a press conference on September 25th to reveal the full details.
