Hewlett-Packard has now jumped on the smartwatch bandwagon, unveiling a wearable designed by fashion designer Michael Bastian.

The device, which will be sold exclusively through US retailer Gilt, will work with both iOS and Android devices via a smartphone app.

According to Gilt, the smartwatch will let you check the weather, stocks and sports updates, as well as giving users email, SMS and social media notifications. It is also water-resistant and has a battery-life that will last up to seven days.

In terms of design, the smartwatch has a 44mm stainless steel casing with three control buttons and three interchangeable bands for customisation.

Michael Bastian spoke of the design in a statement.

“A watch like this should provide men with quick, simple, accurate information at a glance, much like the displays and dials of a car dashboard – you can almost think of it as a personal dashboard for your digital life. The watch’s interchangeable straps in perforated leather, nylon and rubber even reflect this inspiration,” said the designer.

It’s obviously aimed just at men, then. Although, we’re sure if women decide to wear it too, then it will provide them with the same functions (or maybe it will just explode, we’re not sure). It really is a shame at how few smartwatches are designed with women in mind, but we’ll leave that argument for another time.

So if you’re a guy after a designer smartwatch, which really does look better than Samsung and LG’s offerings, and perhaps you’re really into cars too – then this is obviously the device for you.

To find out more about the smartwatch, you can sign up for updates on Gilt’s website. There has as-yet been no confirmation of the price. Judging by its luxury credentials, however, we’re guessing this will set you back a fair amount of cash.
