We’ve seen fancy gimmicks on smartphones before but this one is something else entirely. LG has just released a smartphone in India that doubles up as a Mosquito Repellent, which is an interesting blend of technologies.

It’s a pretty bulky, plastic looking handset with a huge bump around the back. This emits an ultrasonic sound wave which is supposed to keep mosquito’s away from your skin and thus… your blood.

As an actual device, the LG K7i is fairly basic. A 5-inch 1280×720 screen and 2,500mAh ship as standard, while an unnamed quad-core processor is backed with 2GB RAM. The 16GB internal memory can be backed by an extra 156GB using a microSD card. Cameras are also standard, with an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front shooter.

The LG K7i runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It will cost 7,990 rupees, which is only about 91 quid. That’s about the standard price in emerging markets. Still, we can’t believe anyone would purchase a phone for killing mosquito’s.
