Rumours regarding LG’s next flagship smartphone have been coming in thick and fast, and the latest leak claims the G3 will be a golden-hued smartphone.

The Verge got its hands on a gold retail box for the LG G3, which it claims indicates that the  company will launch its next flagship in a “golden hue” colour. See below:

It wouldn’t be the first company to do this with the Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One all available in a gold shade. Additionally, LG also released the G2 in a gold variant so it wouldn’t be the first time for itself  either.

While the company wouldn’t confirm the gold colour option to The Verge, it did admit that the device would be coming with a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution display.

The Verge also claimed other sources have suggested the next flagship would resemble the recently surfaced LG isai FL, aka the LGL22, which is a forthcoming thin-bezelled handset destined for Japan. You can see an image of it below:

Previous specs rumours have claimed the LG G3 will come with a 5.5-inch QHD display, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 64GB, along with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and a 13-megapixel camera.

The rumours surrounding the processor have been contradictory, with some claiming the 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset will be on board and others suggesting the more advanced 801 processor will be present.

Staying with processors, one thing we now know for sure is that LG is working on its own chip alongside TSMC, which a company representative claims will launch “soon”.

Codenamed  Odin, the chip will be available in multiple configurations with the top model boasting ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture with four Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 2.2GHz, and four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.7GHz, as well as PowerVR Series 6 GPU.  TSMC is making the Odin chip, which looks very much like Samsung’s Exynos series.

It will definitely be used in an array of mid-range devices released in H2 2014 and throughout next year. Lower-end variants will rely on less cores and thus be used with more affordable devices.

Meanwhile, the LG G3 will likely rely on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 or 805 to provide as much processing power as a high-end phone requires.

May has been touted as the release date for the LG G3 – with 17 May specifically popping up in rumours. The Verge also noted the date on the LGL24’s screen: 1 May. It could be a coincidence, or it could hint at an event date.

Either way, an announcement is coming, so stay tuned to What Mobile for all the latest news.
