How do these things keep on happening? Is it just to drum up a bit of interest in a strange new product, or are the people working on the websites of the world’s biggest electronics corporations just really bad at scheduling their posts? Yep, we have another leak, this time coming from HP.

Meet the HP SlateBook 14, an Android laptop. We know, we know, and we wish we could tell you why. Is there demand for this? Are people really that jaded or spendthrift that they’re done with regular laptops? Hell, even Google’s Chromebook makes more sense than this. We’re scratching our heads trying to work out just how this thing will be anything more than an extremely large Android tablet with a keyboard attached (not that there’s anything wrong with that, per se).

HP - SlateBook 14 side on

A video mistakenly published on HP’s official website detailed some of the technical specs of the SlateBook 14. You can look forward to a full 1080p, 14-inch screen, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage – which seems a little tight of HP given that you can buy a smartphone with twice as much storage in a fraction of the space, or a 14-inch laptop with 50 times as much. There’s Beats technology inside for better quality audio, and an unspecified Nvidia quad-core processor. Memory is expandable via microSD, too, which is rather funny to picture doing on what is essentially a full-size laptop. At least it looks rather nice, a fairly sleek-looking black and yellow number being the model featured in the video.

It seems that the appeal, and any potential success, of this strange device is going to ultimately come down to the price. Just who is the SlateBook 14 supposed to be appealing to? And do you think that Android is ready to be adapted into a fully-fleshed operating system? We’ll have to wait until its  official unveiling before we find out more.
