Korean Samsung worker dies after carbon dioxide leak in factory

Reports emerging from Korea have stated that a factory worker based in Samsung’s southern Seoul plant has died today following a carbon dioxide leak.

The tragedy occurred when an automated fire extinguisher mistakenly detected a fire in the area and released carbon dioxide into the area, asphyxiating the 52-year-old, as-yet-unnamed worker. The man worked for one of Samsung’s partner companies.

Sadly, this is not the first case of death in the Samsung workplace. In January of last year a hydrofluoric acid leak killed one employee and injured four others. Similarly, there have been multiple cases of workers dying of sudden, aggressive cancer, sparking fears that the chemicals used in chip production may be causing blood-related illnesses.

A police investigation is now underway to determine the cause of this latest accident.
