iPhone 5S discontinued by Apple

The iPhone SE was announced last night and predictably the guillotine came down on the iPhone 5S.

We’ve known for time that this was going to happen, with the iPhone 5S being the oldest handset on sale from Apple. Beforehand it was the iPhone 5 that got the chop, with the iPhone 5C taking up the 5’s tiny mantle. Now that mantle has been smashed to pieces to create a bigger one for the SE, as the 5c was discontinued last year. The SE is now Apple’s only answer for those that desire a 4-inch device. It seems Apple are committed to that claim as the SE is a truly powerful device and is the cheapest iPhone at launch in Apple history.

If you check out Apple’s website you’ll see the 5S wiped from existence.

The 5S still lives on in my pocket (for how long I don’t know). It would have been nice of Apple to keep the 5S at a discounted price; to truly go after the lower end of the market. That probably would have spelled disaster for a lot of Android manufacturers.
