Huawei brings out a £2,000 folding phone

Huawei has launched a £2,000 flagship smartphone called the Mate X3 claimed to be the world’s slimmest and lightest large-screen foldable smartphone”

The Mate X3 (above) has a 6.4-inch 3D OLED exterior screen and a 7.85-inch foldable OLED internal screen, a durable Kunlun Glass exterior screen and an impact-resistant foldable interior screen. Kunlun Glass is Huawei’s own technology that requires 108 treatment procedures and a melting process of 1600C.

The hinge is made of aviation-grade aluminium alloy. The unfolding and folding process is optimised with a precision cam-drive system.

Also announced this week is the £1,400 P60 Pro (12Gb RAM and 52Gb storage). A £1,200 version comes with 8Gb RAM and 256Gb storage).

P60 Pro: F2.1 aperture telephoto periscope lens and wide-angle lenses

The P60 Pro boasts advanced imaging features. The F2.1 aperture telephoto periscope lens and wide-angle lenses are distributed on the upper and lower sides of the main camera. It has a quad-curve Display with Huawei-exclusive durable Kunlun Glass.  The four sides are slightly curved while the four edges of the screen are more rounded. Huawei says the 60 Pro is the first mobile phone in the world to be certified with TÜV Rheinland Colour Accuracy Dual Certification. A feature called Super Moon mode correctly exposes the distant moon while preserving middle-ground details and the details of objects in the middle ground to create visual illusions.

The device supports 50W wireless fast charging 7w and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. In Turbo mode the P60 Pro can be charged to half in 10 minutes.

The 8/256GB variant will be available in Black, and the 12/512GB variant in Rococo Pearl. They can be bought directly from Huawei and from selected retailers next in two weeks. Anyone purchasing from the UK Huawei Store by up to June 5 will get a free Watch GT 3 . Customers purchasing the 512GB storage variant can claim an additional £100 voucher which can be redeemed on the UK Huawei Store.

Huawei smartphones do not support Google apps but use apps from Huawei’s own AppGallery which has 18 categories, covering global and local top apps including navigation and transport, news, social media, finance, entertainment, and others.
