In today’s press conference in New York, HTC have officially announced the HTC One A9.

The HTC One A9 has been leaked all over the Internet, with speculations all turning out to be true. The A9 will retail at £429.99 for a sim-free version, which puts the device in the upper mid-range in the smartphone market.

There will be inevitable comparisons to the iPhone 6s, because that is what HTC is trying to do here, appeal to the masses who demand quality and style. But with the HTC One A9 they can also get a better price as seen.

It was never expected of HTC to release something that was going to smash current spec standards. But it would not look out of place among flagship phones, with its aluminium unibody (also seen on the iPhone 6s). But what it does better than the iPhone is the sizing, measuring up at 145.75 x 70.8. x 7.26mm. It’s taller and wider, much more comfortable to grasp in your hands. The display is 5 inches, plastered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It weighs a small 143g, adding to the comfort score.

The snapper is quite impressive with 13 megapixels (front-facing 4 megapixels), but what makes it really impressive is that it has optical image stabilisation (OIS), which the iPhone 6s lacks. With OIS the camera take smoother pictures and do better in low-light conditions. RAW photos is also supported for the photographers out there.

In terms of power there will be a Snapdragon 617, which has proven to be an impressive octa-core processor. Ram will be 2GB and 3GB, internal storage is 16GB and 32GB respectively.

Marshmallow 6.0 will be available out of the box, making the A9 the first third party phone to do so.  No concrete release date has been confirmed yet, but it will be released in the first month of November.
