HTC has updated its mid-range portfolio launching the Desire 816 and 610 devices on the first day of Mobile World Congress (MWC).

The HTC Desire 816 has a 5.5 inch 720p display, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP front-facing camera and a 2600 mAh battery.

It is powered by Qualcomm’s 1.6 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and is available in a range of colours including black, white, red and green.

The launch comes as no surprise as Andrew Frolund, HTC’s UK Vice President told the latest edition of Mobile News (out today) that the mid-range market was of “interest” to them.

The Desire marks the opening salvo in its bid to increase its UK market share to above 10 percent by the end of 2014. A new flagship model is expected in the coming months.

The Desire 610 has a 4.7 inch display and an 8MP rear camera.

The firm also used MWC to promote its ‘HTC Power to Give’ initiative it says will create a supercomputer by “harnessing the collective processing power of Android smartphones.”

Users can download the ‘HTC Power to Give’ app and opt-in to divert a proportion of the phones processing power to humanitarian research.
