A beautiful game with irreverent humour to boot, Wide Sky involves the “marine mammal”, the hedgehog, as it swings from clouds to smash orbs, collect objects and try to  achieve as much height and flexibility as possible, to gain points.

Using touch or tilt controls, whichever you prefer, the hedgehog uses ropes attached to clouds to swing ever higher in search of said objects.

Play

Game play is pretty intuitive but takes a minute or two to work out.  An update has also provided a helpful, step by step guide, addressing issues with difficulty getting into the game reported by users, including one comment that read ‘OH GOD DON’T SKIP THE TUTORIAL’.

The stand out feature of the game is its graphics – it’s beautiful, with pastel colours and an adorable main character, wearing a red scarf, even.

It has the potential to become a tad boring, since repeatedly smashing orbs and flying around on the end of ropes can wear thin, and the game costs £0.69.  However the hedgehog can gain special powers like using a parachute and there are 40 challenges to complete.

And with lines like ‘Hedgehogs will manipulate their ropes to gain competitive advantage.   We scientists laugh at their insolence’ and beautiful art, what’s not to like?
