Forget 4K displays, Samsung is making an 11K display

Samsung has revealed that the company is developing an insane 11K display, which could have a potential PPI resolution well exceeding a thousand pixels per inch.

Smartphone screens are moving at a fairly rapid rate, with the current standard being Quad HD. At a staggering resolution of 2,560 x 1,440, that calculates to over 500 pixels per inch which is well over the proposed detail perception of human vision. Yet, mobile phone manufacturers continue to milk the technology and squeeze every last drop out of it.

We already know that 4K displays are on the horizon, with a proposed 3,840 x 2,160 resolution. It’s only a matter of time before they find their way into your smart device too. With a pixel density that potentially eclipses 800 PPI, you have to wonder where the madness ends. This is without even mentioning the insane 8K displays, where pixel density could even hit 1,000 Pixels Per Inch.

Imagine our reaction when Samsung stated they were creating an 11K smartphone display, such a resolution is likely unusable in most cases. Consider the battery drain. Consider the processing power needed. Consider the horrible OS scaling and pixellated icons! Makes me heave thinking about it.

While it’s clearly a technological demonstration, it makes us wonder where the madness is going to end? When is enough, enough?
