It can be tough, waiting for your handset to receive a firmware update, but a whole host of popular models are finally set to receive Android 4.4 KitKat.

Sony Xperia owners are the big winners this month. Whilst the shiny new Xperia Z2 may be receiving the bulk of media attention, it’s nice to see that Sony hasn’t left their older handsets to fester. The  Xperia Z (both handset and tablet), Xperia ZR (both handset and tablet) and Xperia ZL will all be imminently receiving the coveted KitKat update.

Owners of those devices who haven’t already should also definitely look in to downloading the latest Sony User Experience build. Out already, it provides a ton of minor tweaks and enhancements to make your Xperia device that little bit better. There’s a new Battery STAMINA Mode for longer life, live wallpapers and the all-important Emoji update, to name a few.

Lenovo’s Vibe X and Z handsets will also be receiving the update by the end of May. Vibe X and Vibe Z users should see better battery life, security and app compatibility on their devices. The camera on both handsets should also have quicker autofocus and better white balance.

As always, depending on your network and location these update may not reach you at the same time as others, but it’s nice to know that they are definitely reaching the point of completion and will be rolling out shortly.
