Our top apps for this week! Apps are the reason why we love our smartphones so much, it’s like having tons of useful little assistants at your beck and call. So why not recruit some new ones to get you through the week!

The Rock Clock (Android and iOS)

Price: Free

the rock

Dwanye ‘The Rock’ Johnson is arguably the biggest superstar from the WWE. Nowadays he’s more of an actor and social media superstar. His positive outlook and inspirational messages have resulted in The Rock Clock, to give you a slice of The Rock’s life.

It’s a simple alarm app that has… wait for it… no snooze button. The Rock hates the snooze button. There are original alarms done by The Rock himself, the classic alarm is the sound of him saying “beep” over and over. Upon awaking you can watch a good morning video from the man himself. Note for improvement: a video of The Rock threatening me all the way to the bathroom. Please.

Slack (Android, iOS and Windows Phone)

Price: Free

slack

It’s been out for a while now but now Slack really deserves your attention. We communicate the traditional way around the office, emails, throwing paper balls and the good old shout. Slack offers a way into the future of work based communication.

Slack is a giant conversation with your colleagues and whoever else you set it up with. Slack groups together messages into clearly labelled groups to ensure you find the information you require. It sounds simple but when you really need to find the right conversation for a certain project, Slack will save you time and probably your arse.

BBC iPlayer Kids (Android and iOS)

Price: Free

iplayer

More than 10,000 episodes of classic CBBC shows are now all available online for free. Danger Mouse, Blue Peter, Arthur, Dennis the Menace, the list really does go on.

No need to fear for the children, everything on iPlayer Kids is suitable for the younglings. Being free the app comes with adverts but like the content, it’s suitable for kids. No Wonderbra ad here. The app is seamless with a great design to catch the ever wandering attention of children.

YapJobs (Android and iOS)

Price: Free

yapjobs

Hospitality jobs require a lot of footwork, time and money. YapJob eliminates those stresses and looks for jobs in the service and hospitality sector in your area. By simply registering you can fire off your application via the app, quick and easy. Students who need a temporary summer job, here you go.

Trello (Android and iOS)

Price: Free

trello

We’re spoiled with so many apps to choose from to help make our lives easier. Most of them are aimed at sloppy organisation! There are endless task and note keepers for you to choose from. Trello stands out by being simple and clear.

Trello offers a card based system created simply taps and long presses for editing and additions. Trello has a clean intuitive UI that feels almost as natural raising your hand when you disagree with an idiotic point. Google’s design language was used in Trello’s creation and it’s very apparent with how easy it is to use it.
