Canon could be testing a 75MP+ DSLR camera

Move on over Nokia, 41MP isn’t quite big enough to cut it in the camera game, with Canon reportedly testing a DSLR with a whopping 75MP+ resolution sensor.

According to our friends over at Photography Bay, the camera will have a similar build to the EOS-1 D X, but will feature a rear LCD screen with a “shockingly high resolution”, as well as a higher frame rate.

This isn’t the first time it has been rumoured that Canon is prepping a DSLR with a high megapixel count, as the Canon EOS 1S is said to feature a 47MP sensor — although nothing has been announced yet.

Bear in mind that just because the company is testing the huge sensor, it may not trickle its way down to a commercial product, as there are many variables involved — including price.

We have seen Canon do something similar though, with the 120MP APS-H sensor, so it would not be out of the realm of possibility.

Photography Bay’s source however claims that the device could be announced by the end of this year, with it going on sale next year.

Of course as with every rumour, you should take all this information with a pinch of salt — although we have to admit, it’s an exciting prospect.
