You can now buy a gold-plated HTC One M8. Well… you could do, if you had the money

The HTC One M8 is a good looking phone, that’s for sure. And, as anyone who has read our review of the handset in this month’s issue of What Mobile magazine will know, we like its all metal body. Aluminium is nice, but you know what’s the best metal of all?  Gold. How would you like a  gold plated One M8? Yeah, that’s what we thought.

T-Mobile US President John Legere was lucky enough to be presented with one of his own by HTC itself, but boy will his face be red when he learns that you can now get one of your own. That’s right, any old pleb can pick now pick up an HTC One M8 plated in either 24 karat gold, rose gold or platinum courtesy of Goldgenie. If that pleb happens to have $2,500+ to spare, that is.

The gold version will cost you  $2,560.95, the rose gold version  $2695.95, and platinum  $2830.95 – perfectly reasonable, we’re sure you’ll agree. In fairness, you’re paying for an unlocked version of the handset which is then plated in precious metal, not just the metal plating itself (which is available from the same site for almost the same price). The device also comes in a rather fancy cherrywood presentational box, with a plastic case to protect it. Because when you drop the price of a second-hand car on a mobile phone you’re going to want to cover it up in plain black plastic.

Feel free to torture yourself further by checking out the video below, which showcases the 24k gold edition in all of its lustrous, endlessly-rotating glory.
