Business expert recommends Blackberry leave the handset market

Blackberry need to completely change their approach to the mobile market if the company is to survive, according to Dr Ronald Klingebiel of Warwick University.

The Canadian company reported losses of £55 million for the second quarter of this year. While this was an improvement on their £319 million loss for the same period in 2012 it still failed to restore faith in the company with their share prices plunging.

Despite Blackberry having recently released two new smartphone models, Dr Klingebiel believes that the future of the comapny lies in the Blackberry Enterprise Services “potentially at the expense of their device portfolio”.

Blackberry’s greatest strength may lie in their secure enterprise server. Their core clients remain in the business world, and the secure working environment and effective integration that Blackberry Enterprises Services Offers is what has kept these clients from straying, despite the falling popularity of Blackberry handsets.

Dr Klingebiel insists “Blackberry needs a game-changer and a new fcus on mobile device management could be it.”
