We’re bringing back the top 5! Here’s our pick of the five best smartphone games this week!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Legends (Android and iOS)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

Tying in with the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Legends allows you to explore an exclusive chapter that connects the story of the films. This turn-based 5-on-5 battler puts you in control of the turtles as you fight to unlock exclusive characters and level up. Teams can be crafted from both heroes and villains, so there’s a pretty cool tactical element involved as you pick and choose the best team possible. You’ll also get to fight in some of the most famous locations from the TV show including the classic sewers where the turtles keep their hidden lair!

Crashing Season (Android and iOS)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

crashing season

With pretty graphics and a highly interactive 3D physics-based world, Crashing Season was always destined to be a hit. Play as one of the many animals on offer as you fight back to take back the money vaults that were destroyed be evil hunters. Each level is essentially an arena where it’s your job to survive and beat waves of enemies. Characters can be customised and leaderboards mean that you’ll be competing with friends for those high scores as you aim to be the meanest animal in town!

Nonstop Knight (Android and iOS)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

nonstop knight

Nonstop Knight is a beautiful looking action RPG that has more than a hint of the Baldur’s Gate series (albeit a little more simplified). Crawl through various dungeons as you strive to become the strongest hero and collect enough coins to upgrade your gear. Combat happens in real-time and boss battles help to keep things interesting, making this much more exciting than your traditional turn-based affair. Combat is still refreshingly simple though and can be easily carried out with one hand, since the game controls primary things such as the movement. This allows the player to focus on combat and grinding those coins for additional weapons and power-ups.

Lost Frontier (iOS only)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

lost frontier

A turn-based batter set in the wild west, Lost Frontier is a fun title where you move units around a square grid and wipe out the enemy in a variety of locations. With over 40 levels on offer and 20 unique unit types, there’s plenty to keep you occupied. The claustrophobic level design can make things quite challenging at times, while manoeuvring key units for maximum effectiveness requires a fairly tactical mind. Graphics are simplistic but stylised, we’re actually quite a fan of the Advance Wars style visual appeal.

Human Resource Machine (iOS only)

Price: £3.99

human resource machine

This is a strange title that somehow manages to be immensely enjoyable at the same time. As an employee of a pretty depressing looking office, it’s your job to automate menial tasks so they can be completed quicker and more effectively. The whole game is based around moving numbers from inbox to outbox, but the way you do it is entirely your choice. It feels like programming on a simplistic level… and later scenarios can get quite challenging. A great puzzler.
