The Asus Padfone 2 is expected to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor by combining a smartphone and tablet to make one of the world’s most unique gadgets.

While the company has hinted at a 16th October 2012 unveiling for the Asus Padfone 2, Asus has yet to announce any details about its next generation tablet.

However, that’s not stopped what are thought to be fully-rounded tech specs from leaking online.

The smartphone portion of the Asus Padfone 2 follows the current trend for large screen phones, with a 4.7-inch Super IPS+ display that delivers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It’s set to measure 137.9 x 68.9 x 9mm and weigh 135g.

The Asus Padfone 2 is set to be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm 1.5GHz S4 processor and come with a 13-Megapixel rear camera that packs in autofocus and Full HD video recording.

Other features of the Asus Padfone 2 include 2GB of RAM, support for 4G LTE networks, a 1.2-Megapixel front-facing camera and 2140mAh battery.

There is no mention at this time which version of Android it will sport but Asus tends to be pretty much on the ball, so pundits are expecting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean by default.

We’ll have to wait and see what actual size of screen the tablet will be but 10.1-inch is clearly the favoured option, especially considering the size of the smartphone screen.

Whatever size it ends up being, we’ll have to wait until the 16th October for all details to be confirmed, along with pricing and UK availability.
