Argos has joined the likes of Envirofone, CEX and Mazuma Mobile in offering cash for unwanted phones and tablets.

Unlike Envirofone, CEX and Mazuma, Argos promises a more straightforward service. The high street retailer is hoping that customers will prefer conveniently walking into a store, getting an instant quote and then immediately being able to trade their unwanted gadgets for a gift card. Items traded into any Argos store will be refurbished and sold, or recycled. The Guardian reports that Argos wants to eventually include cameras, laptops and other electrical devices in the scheme.

Amy Whidburn, head of corporate responsibility at Argos, said: “As a leading technology retailer we know that our customers are looking for solutions to responsibly dispose of unwanted gadgets when they replace or trade-up devices. Our new scheme in conjunction with Wrap offers them a safe way to do this, in a really convenient location on their local high street or retail park, with the added benefit of receiving a gift card in return immediately.”
