In its bid to win over more customers, Apple is now offering Android, Blackberry and Windows phone owners the chance to trade in their old devices for store credit towards a new iPhone or iPad.
Trade-ins done through the service, named the Reuse and Recycling Programme, can be done both online and in-store with Blackberry, Samsung, Nokia, HTC, LG and Sony devices. To qualify for the service, your phone must be able to switch on and be in reasonably good condition. If the device doesn’t qualify, Apple can recycle it on your behalf.
If you qualify, you can ask Apple staff to advise you on how to export contacts, set up email and download apps. They’ll even help you pick the most suitable phone tariff that meets your needs.
The Reuse and Recycling Programme has been available in the UK since October 2013, but this is the first time Apple has accepted non-iOS devices.
The programme was set up as the company’s commitment towards environmental responsibility. Chief executive Tim Cook said: “We have a long way to go, and a lot to learn. But now more than ever, we will work to leave the world better than we found it.”
