Many people wrote off this year’s iPhone launches as unimpressive, but one crowd was certainly impressed — and that was the Apple faithful. According to analyst Gene Munster, the the launch of the iPhone 5c and 5s created the biggest crowd the company’s Fifth Avenue flagship store has ever seen.

According to Munster’s figures, this year’s line numbered 1,417 people, an 83% increase from the number of people there for the iPhone 5.

Despite the huge increase at the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue, other stores didn’t do so well — with Munster reporting that numbers were either flat when compared to last year, or slightly up. An Apple Store just around the corner at Upper West Side Manhattan reported just 405 people in line, up from 376 for the iPhone 5.

Whether the upwards trend of people queuing for the Apple Store translates to actual sales will likely be answered on Monday, if Apple continues its tradition — although according to Munster, most of the people lining up today were there just for the iPhone 5s, meaning it could be a disappointing result for the colourful iPhone 5c.
