Apple picks TSMC over Samsung

Samsung may have lost the contract for the iPhone, according to a report in an Asian news outlet.

According to South Korean news outlet The Electronic Times, Apple has opted to solely use the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for their processors in the new iPhone 7, with Samsung no longer set to provide chips for their devices. The new processors are expected to go into production sometime in June.

There was controversy over the two manufacturers late last year when both TSMC and Samsung produced the A9 chips for the iPhone 6s. Many people reported issues relating to the Samsung chip specifically, with one such problem being less overall battery life. This is on top of the fact that a TMSC research official leaked valuable trade secrets to Samsung, allowing them to catch up in the A9 production.
