Apple is allowing iOS users to buy apps, music and more through their mobile carriers.
According to TechCrunch, O2 have confirmed the scheme is available now for some German O2 customers and will be rolling out to all prepaid and postpaid customers by the beginning of next month. Apple have not yet commented on the new service, nor have they confirmed whether the service will be available for other networks. Carrier billing is already available on Android.
With this new service customers can now bypass the need for a credit card and even a bank account. It also adds convenience as all smartphone expenditures will all be on one bill. This also opens up another path for people to own an iPhone if a bank account was holding them back before, as you needed to link your credit card with your account to purchase apps.
It remains to be seen whether the UK will get this service, currently Google offer direct carrier billing through Three, T-Mobile, O2.
