Rovio gave fans a peek at the next installment in the enraged avian flinging saga today with the release of a trailer for Angry Birds Star Wars 2.

The first ‘Angry Birds’ game was released for iOS in 2009 and has since expanded into a franchise with over 1.7 billion downloads of the various games released in the Angry Birds series. In the game players must fling the birds at enemy pigs which are protected by   structures made of a a range of materials such as wood, ice and stone. The aim of the game is to use the various abilities the birds possess to destroy the pigs, often using the collapse of the structures to achieve this indirectly.

The latest release in the series was Angry Birds Star Wars, which saw the paired game with the hit movie franchise and features characters and settings based on the Star Wars movies.

The new trailer shows the game expanding further into the Star Wards movies featuring locations and characters from the more recent prequel films (episodes I, II, and III). The trailer also demonstrates the use of ‘telepods’, a feature which allows players to buy physical models of the characters in the game which can be ‘transported’ into the app as a way of adding new content.

The app is set to launch on September 19th of this year.
