Amazon has launched the Kindle Fire HD range with new 7-inch and 8.9 tablets adding to its existing Kindle Fire line of touchscreen devices.

Powered by Android, the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD packs a 1280 x 800 pixel HD LCD screen, capable of running high-definition video up to 720p HD.

A 1.2GHz dual-core OMAP 4460 processor runs the device and a choice of 16GB and 32GB storage will be on offer, with Amazon claiming 11 hours of use from a single battery charge.

The 7-inch Kindle Fire HD is coming to the UK first, with no news yet on when the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD will reach these shores.

Prices start at just £159, putting the Kindle Fire HD head-to-head with the Google Nexus 7, adding even greater quality to the affordable entry-level tablet market.

And with rumours that Apple may be about to launch an Apple iPad Mini, it looks like it’ll be a great Christmas for tablet fans.
