Google is hoping to take over the PC market, after all it has already succeeded in owning your smartphone – but with tough competition from Microsoft’s Windows operating system, El Goog is hoping it can win the laptop war with cheap and cheerful Chromebooks. The latest Chromebook to grace the shelves, or at least it will from next month, is the Acer C720P – which is a lot like Google’s own Chromebook Pixel, albeit $1,000 less.

The Acer C720P is the first touchscreen Chromebook other than the pixel and sports an 11.6-inch HD LED display, although it’s not quite full HD with a resolution of 1,366 x 768. Inside the processor you’ll find an Intel Celeron 2955U, 32GB SSD and 2GB DDR3 RAM. Battery life is quoted at a rather respectable 7.5 hours, although that’s less than the Haswell-powered Chromebook from Acer seen last month.

Acer has currently only announced US pricing for its first touchscreen Chromebook, with it going for as little as $299 -although for that price you’re getting quite bit, including a USB 3.0 and 2.0 port, HDMI out, SD card slot and two years worth of 100GB Google Drive.
