We know that communication is key to a relationship, so this Valentine’s Day why not take a moment to find out exactly how you are communicating with the most important person in your life on WhatsApp – and indeed, who that is!

With many of us using WhatsApp as an invaluable way to maintain our most important relationships, it will come as no surprise that the most special people in our lives are the people we message the most on WhatsApp. That said, can you guess how many messages you have exchanged with your partner over the course of your relationship? Perhaps the person you message the most is actually your best friend and not your partner? Or your mother? Or even your boss? The results may surprise you…

Finding out how many messages, photos, GIFs, videos and voice notes you’ve exchanged with the most special people in your life is easy. Simply follow the instructions below..

  1. Open ‘WhatsApp’
  2. Go to ‘Settings’ at the bottom right of your screen
  3. Select ‘Data and Storage Usage’
  4. Select ‘Storage Usage’

You will then see the full list of your WhatsApp contacts and groups, with the person you have sent the most messages to, ranked by phone storage, at the top of the list. (Note: the top person may not necessarily be the person you have sent the most messages to, like images and video take up a lot of storage).

Just tap on someone’s name to see how many messages you have exchanged between you since you became friends (or more than just friends..) on WhatsApp. You can also see how many photos, GIFs, videos, voice messages, documents and stickers you have exchanged between you since the start of your relationship.

But a word of warning: you may discover that your number one most-messaged person on WhatsApp is someone other than your partner, so don’t blame us if this starts a lover’s tiff!

It’s also easy to find out how prolific you are at messaging on WhatsApp. To find out how many messages you have sent and received on WhatsApp in total, simply:

  1. Open ‘WhatsApp’
  2. Go to ‘Settings’ at the bottom right of your screen
  3. Select ‘Data and Storage Usage’
  4. Select ‘Network Usage’

You will then see exactly how many messages you have sent and received since you started using WhatsApp*.

On WhatsApp, every message and call is secured with end-to-end encryption, which that means no one except you and the person you’re chatting with can read or listen to its contents, not even WhatsApp. And your messages belong to you, which is why your messages are stored on your phone and are not stored by WhatsApp.

*You may well find that you have received more messages than you have sent. This may be because you belong to some groups, in which you are likely to receive more messages than you send.
