Top Ten Game-Related Phone Cases

From Pac-Man to Assassin’s Creed, there’s something here for every gamer. We investigate our Top Ten game-related phone cases (plus one Honourable Mention).

1. Pac-Man

Pac-Man

Want a permanent high score on the most famous game of all? On this personalised Pac-Man case, you can have just that. The only way that this cover could be more accurate to the original is if you could play the game on it and escape Blinky and its friends. Well, maybe someday.

A neat plastic clip-on case, this is available with both black and white backgrounds.

Compatible phones: iPhone 5, iPhone 4/4s, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy S3, and Blackberry Bold 9900.

Available at Special Moment. Price: £14.99

2. Halo

Halo

The Master Chief in all his highly-detailed glory was one we just couldn’t resist. The iconic image of Halo’s silent protagonist stares out unflinchingly from this case – or at least we assume he does, it’s difficult to see through the helmet.

Available in a tough plastic snap-on case (with optional silicon impact-absorbing sleeve), or as a stick-on decal, this is one for all Halo fans.

Compatible phones: iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus

Available at Redbubble. Price: £22.50

3. Mario

Mario

This breathtakingly clever phone case wraps a classic Mario box around the Apple logo, with Mario leaping up to knock it free. It’s a shame it doesn’t come in more sizes, but that’s a minor quibble.

The case is made of clear, flexible rubber, offering an extra layer of protection against the occasional knock your phone might encounter from day to day.

Compatible phones: iPhone 6

Available at Etsy. Price: £6.58

4. Call of Duty

Call of Duty

You can find Call of Duty skulls and armour and logos with a quick search, but this phone case is a little more unique. The Cat of Duty is a smart play on words, right down to the reordering of MW3 (Modern Warfare 3) into M3W. A careful balance of adorable and badass, this kitten is not afraid to take names and scratch ankles.

Like the Master Chief above, this case has the options of a tough plastic snap-on case (with optional silicon impact-absorbing sleeve), or a stick-on decal.

Compatible phones: iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus

Available at Redbubble. Price: £20.84

5. Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy

Someone unfamiliar with Final Fantasy might wonder why we’re associating a big yellow chicken with this game, but of course it’s a Gold Chocobo, one of the most highly sought after (and hardest to get) modes of transportation in some of the games. We liked this one for its instant recognisability and stand-out artwork.

The case comes either as a tough plastic snap-on case (with optional silicon impact-absorbing sleeve), or as a stick-on decal.

Compatible phones: iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus

Available at Redbubble. Price: £20.01

6. Mass Effect

Mass Effect

Simple, bold, and textured, the N7 logo of the most advanced special forces in the Mass Effect universe is a stand-out example of logo design for for phone cases. Though we recommend that you don’t answer your calls by calling yourself Commander Shepard, unless that’s your real name.

Price:

7. Legend of Zelda

Legend of Zelda

As tempting as it was to show off the 8-bit Link case, this vivid image of one of Link’s swords with the Triforce on the blade was the final winner. If Link couldn’t be on the case, I think he’d like the fact that his sword was there instead.

The back of the case is made from plastic, while the sides are formed from silicon rubber for an easy fit.

Compatible phones: iPhone 6

Available at Amazon. Price: £8.99

8. Minecraft

Minecraft

We couldn’t leave out the hugely popular Minecraft when shopping for game-based cases, and we found this one that holds up to the clean, blocky simplicity of the game’s graphics. The seller claims that this Creeper case is “made from 100% post-explosion Creeper parts”, but we’re not sure that we believe them.

This case is a plastic clip-on.

Compatible phones: iPhone 5

Available at Forbidden Planet. Price: £12.99

9. Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s Creed

This gorgeously drawn Assassin’s Creed logo gives a fantastic illusion of being 3D. Unremarkable to those who don’t play the game, but instantly recognisable to those who do, this case is simple, elegant, and classic. What Mobile is not responsible for any sudden belief that you are Ezio Auditore.

Price: £19.45

10. Pokémon

Pokémon

It’s a cliché, but we had to choose this Pikachu case, with its cheek and paw squished up against the cover as if only a thin panel of glass separated it from our world. Here’s a challenge: try not to press a finger against its little yellow paw.

Honourable Mention: Fallout

Fallout

The gorgeous Nuka-Cola symbol against a brick wall stands out vividly, but unfortunately we couldn’t fit it into the Top Ten. One for all wanderers and fans of Fallout. My personal favourite of all the options shown here.

Another plastic clip-on case, the website claims that it’s made of temperature resistant high grade hard polymer like the kind used on the space shuttle. Which could be helpful in a Fallout situation.

Compatible phones: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPod Touch 4th Gen, iPad 2, iPad 3, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy Note and Note 2, Samsung Galaxy, Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, S4 and S5.

Available at GamerPrint. Price: £22.00
