The mobile instalment of first person shooter/role playing game Deus Ex will be available for mobiles and tablets this summer.
Square Enix, the publisher behind the incredibly popular Final Fantasy series, as well as the PC chapter of Deus Ex, are launching Deus Ex: The Fall, a new instalment of the Deus Ex story line, on the iPad and iPhone (according to the announcement on YouTube).
The story goes that this particular chapter is set in 2027, amidst a take over by corporations of the drug supply needed by humans with special abilities (“augmented”) to survive. The main character is one such augmented human, a former British SAS mercenary Ben Saxon, who has been betrayed by his private military employers, the Tyrants, and must find out the truth behind the drug cartel conspiracy.
Sounds fairly epic, n’cest pas?
Square Enix’s European mobile division and the Human Revolution team at Eidos’ Montreal outfit, as well as developers N-Fusion have banded together to create the first of the service released on mobile and tablet devices, the company said. If you’re a fan of the series, the mobile chapter picks up where the novel, The Icarus Effect, leaves off, Square said.
Eidos-Montreal executive game director Jean-Francois Dugas said the team had created controls for intuitive touch screen gameplay but remained true to the canon, while also creating a new story.
“Players can expect exploration, action, hacking, stealth, social enhancers, player choice and consequence- the full DEUS EX experience.”
Square Enix Mobile general manager Antony Douglas said smart devices were central to the company’s strategy.
“We approach it with the same attention as our boxed and digital releases.”
Gamers would pay £4.99 for the first chapter, the company said.
