Ikea has just launched a virtual reality game incorporating a unique theme… Interior kitchen design.

Companies have a knack for jumping on the next big thing, with advertising campaigns that capitalize on emerging technology. Ikea are one such example, with crazy videos of cats taking over a Wembley store being one of many examples.

Today, the company has launched a virtual reality application called the “Ikea VR Experience,” which is built using the Unreal Engine 4. The game puts users into a virtual kitchen and gives them the task of redecorating the entire space. Cabinets can be changed and things can be re-painted with the help of 3D planning tools.

Ikea says that the application is intended solicit feedback as the company explores future uses for the technology. That said, we still can’t help but feel that it’s a bit like a giant advertisement for getting a new kitchen.

The Ikea VR Experience can be downloaded right now from Steam.
