Facebook Messenger gets first game – and it’s very buggy

Facebook has just released its first game for the messenger service and it’s a bit of a disappointment.

We’ve known that games were getting integrated into the chat service for quite some time but until now we haven’t had chance to play with one. Doodle Draw is the first to work but it’s not quite as expected.

If you ever played Draw Something, there’s very little difference between the two. You compete with friends by drawing pictures and trying to guess what the other has drawn. It’s a nice social app that should work great with the Messenger application, only it doesn’t.

It’s actually a completely separate app that connects with Facebook Messenger and sends a photograph of your drawing with an invitation to reply. There’s very little integration with the service at all and it’s currently buggy as hell. Techradar have reported problems replying to invitations and disappearing lines whenever you take your finger off the screen.

The game is available to download now from the App Store and Google Play store. After installing, you get a choice of which friends to play with. It currently feels like a prototype for bigger ideas but if Facebook can nail some deeper integration and sort out the bugs, they could be onto a winner.
