BlackBerry offers small update on BBM, still on for iOS, Android

In case you hadn’t noticed, we’re still waiting on BlackBerry’s BBM app to reach the likes of iOS and Android in most countries across the globe.

Both New Zealand and Australia saw the app launch a little while ago, but the rollout was promptly halted when a leaked .apk file on the Android OS started putting strain on the company’s servers. We’ve heard little from the app since, but BlackBerry has offered just a little snippet of info today via Twitter.

The company’s BBM account posted:  “Sill 100% committed to bringing #BBM to Android and iPhone,” although no further information was given other than where to sign up… for further information. It could be that work to block the leaked .apk is still happening, and server levels won’t be manageable until it’s dealt with. Last week we reported that BBM wouldn’t be due, uh, this week. So keep waiting, we guess.

Of course, it’s hard not to think about the whole company’s ongoing financial woes when talking about this, which will be of a much higher priority right now. Still, it would be nice to see the app head elsewhere are long last and put a more positive feather in the company’s cap during these tough times.
