Motorola has finally removed all uncertainty by giving an official upgrade schedule for Android OS 2.2 updates.

Recently, Motorola suggested that it might not offer upgrades to Android 2.2 on devices that were originally stated as being upgradeable to support Adobe Flash. One such handset was the Motorola Milestone, the variant of the Motorola Droid that is already in the process of being upgraded.

Such a move sparked a wave of protests on forums (including Motorola’s own support forum) and Facebook groups that encouraged people to return their Milestone and demand a full refund.

A lot of angry users vowed never to buy another Motorola device again, which wouldn’t be very good for a company that is only just getting its feet back on the ground in the mobile space.

Now, the company has decided to come out with an official schedule of upgrades, which may well disappoint some people but will at least end all the guessing and confusion. European Milestone users will now be relived to see that the 2.2 update is coming, even if it means waiting until Q4.

The full upgrade schedule from Motorola is as follows (cut and pasted from here to ensure no errors). As you can see, some old devices will not even get an upgrade to OS 2.1 – although it should be made clear that Motorola didn’t promise to upgrade all of them.

One exception is the DEXT, where Motorola Europe did originally state officially that it would upgrade the device to 2.1. That’s a rather poor show in our view.
