Sony Ericsson Android phone to be called Infinity?

October 27th 2009

Posted by: Jonathan Morris

Save the date: November 3rd 2009. It's when Sony Ericsson is likely to announce its Android phone, which has been called both the X3 and X10. In keeping with the recent naming strategy, like Satio, Yari and Aino, the word is that the Android phone will be called 'Infinity'.

Of course, just as the Satio is also known as the 'U1' and the Aino is the 'U10', the Infinity (if it is called this) will probably be numbered the X3 or X10 (we'd go with X10 as it sounds more plausible - but who knows?).

The Android OS device will have a higher resolution screen than existing devices, along with an 8.1-megapixel autofocus camera with flash and possibly an impressive 32GB of onboard storage (plus a card slot for another 32GB potential).

Sony Ericsson is already teasing with its statement: "Sometimes there's a thin line between the extraordinary and the magical. Did we cross it?" so check back on November 3rd to, hopefully, get the full facts.

Update - 1500GMT: The plot thickens. We spoke to the PR team and there's no event planned for this date. Will it be a pre-announcement to confirm the device (and give basic specs or a general teaser), ahead of an official announcement that will come later on? Other sources suggested that it wouldn't be announced until 2010, so the teaser campaign theory could well hold water.
