Rumour: LG's 12-megapixel 'Renoir HD' will also do HD video

When LG officially launched the new Viewty Smart in early June, the south Korean handset maker also hinted that a 12-megapixel phone was on the horizon. Ahead of an official announcement, What Mobile has been hearing some rumours of the likely specification of a model that may be called the Renoir HD.
The key feature is obviously the 12-megapixel camera, joining Samsung's Pixon 12 and Sony Ericsson's forthcoming Satio (aka Idou). Samsung is likely to be first to market, but LG is bound to be close behind.
The key difference, if true, will be the 3x optical zoom. There will also be a Xenon flash, combined with an LED for video recording.
And it's in the video department that the 'Renoir HD' may also prove rather exciting. We've already had HD video capture with Samsung's I8910 HD (aka Omnia HD) but the rumour says full-HD. Does this mean an increase from 1280x720 to the full 1920x1080? If so, this is going to be quite incredible.
There's an improvement to the slow-motion capture mode, with speculation that it will be able to capture at 300 frames per second - although it's important to stress that it will almost certainly be restricted to QVGA or VGA resolutions. Fun videos to look at on-screen, but of little use elsewhere - not counting the huge file sizes that result from taking ten times as many frames per second!
The other specs include;
- 3.3-inch OLED display - Wide VGA resolution
- GPS
- WiFi with DNLA support
- 16GB of internal memory + memory expansion
- mini HDMI socket & 3.5mm headphone jack
- Integrated stand
- 1,500mAh battery
As soon as we get more information, we'll post it here.
