The waiting is nearly over (for those who didn't opt to download the latest iPhone OS via alternative sources) and at 8pm tonight, existing 2G and 3G iPhone owners will be able to update to iPhone OS 3.0!
As reported back in March of this year, the latest update brings the following new features to existing iPhone users:
- Cut, copy & paste
- Landscape keyboard
- MMS
- Spotlight search
- Voice memos
- Improved calendar
- Buy movies, TV shows and audiobooks from the iPhone
- Enhanced Stocks App
- Improvements to Safari web browser
- Internet tethering (using your iPhone as a modem)
- Stereo Bluetooth (but, apparently not Bluetooth audio controls for fast forward, rewind etc)
- Automatic Wi-Fi login
- Sync notes
- Parental Controls
- iTunes Store Account (log in to more than one account from your iPhone)
- YouTube login
- Shake to shuffle music
- More languages
- MobileMe 'Find My iPhone' and 'Remote Wipe' for added security
- Next-generation applications (such as peer-to-peer games)
The next iPhone, the iPhone 3G S will be on sale from Friday June 19th at O2 stores, Carphone Warehouse and the Apple Store.
